Llano Springs Ranch, Ltd. has been expertly managed for the
production of trophy Whitetail deer since 1994. The ranch operates
under a Managed Lands Deer Permit issued by the Texas Parks
and Wildlife Department. The Permit allows an extended season
in addition to the statewide Whitetail season established annually
by Texas Parks and Wildlife. This extended season coupled with
larger bag limits are the incentives provided in exchange for
certain land and game management practices that are habitat
focused. These practices include brush control, water resources,
supplemental feeding, planting food plots, prescribed burns,
livestock rotation, population controls of livestock and deer,
deer census taking, deer statistics and harvest. The land is
managed to create a haven for wildlife.
Th e
ranch is high-fenced with an 8 foot game fence to assist with
the management program.
The deer at L lano
Springs Ranch, Ltd.
are fed protein and mineral supplements to enhance antler growth,
general health and fawn production. Our
private biologist, Fielding Harwell, formerly with Texas Parks
and Wildlife Department, tabulates deer census data from nighttime
surveys and helicopter surveys to provide harvest recommendations.
The buck to doe ratio is approximately 1:1 with an estimated
one deer for every ten acres. A significant percent of the Whitetail
bucks are of mature age categories.
Llano Spring Ranch, Ltd. is representative of the Edwards Plateau
region of Texas with rolling hills
and clear rock bottom springs. The family owned and operated
ranch consists of 5,100 acres located at the headwaters
of the South Llano River near Junction, Texas. Elevations range
from 1,917 feet above sea level in the river bottoms to 2,277
feet above sea level in the uplands. Due to the low humidity
of the region, the climate is comfortable throughout the year.
